• To ensure that the internal audit function of the Bank provides quality services that complies with internal and international auditing standards and management expectations.

• To effectively and efficiently carry out planned assignments approved by the Head of Internal Audit.

Key Responsibilities

• Performing audits in accordance with Group Internal Audit (GIA) methodology and professional practice standards; drafting of quality and timely audit reports; presenting issues to the business; and discussing practical solutions.

• Understanding the interconnectedness of products and support units throughout the Bank and how they impact on the IT infrastructure.

• Assist in the implementation of information system projects and ensure that the relevant controls are in place from on set.

• Review and ensure clear roles, responsibilities, segregation of duties and succession planning for the various levels of IT staff to enable them deliver the right IT services.

• Review and ensure that the business continuity and disaster recovery plans are in place and are being implemented as required.

• Review and ensure that there are adequate controls over IT processes of managing problems/ incidents as well as proper escalation procedures.

• Review and ensure there are adequate controls over IT processes of managing data (source documents, authorization and approvals, retention, handling of output from IT application programs, report distribution, data storage, etc.).

• Review of Income Assurance using Audit Command Language (ACL) to guard against income leakages through unauthorized income and expense interest rates etc.

• Generation of reports for investigation using ACL.

• Upholding the highest possible quality of services through various quality control checks and appropriate allocation of duties.

• Maintaining the use of best practices by researching and adopting new audit techniques where relevant.

• Reporting monthly and quarterly and annual audit results; issues validation;

• Participating in major Bank initiatives and proactively providing advice and assistance on change initiatives.

Key Performance Measures

• Meeting quarterly audit plan targets.

• Analysis of data of all branches for audit purposes.                                                                     *   

• Stock count of all IT systems software.

• Audit of IT system software.                                            

• IT Infrastructure & General Controls audit.  

• Submission of monthly, quarterly and annual reports to GIA and senior management.

• Budgetary expenditure variances to be positive.

• Level of legitimate complaints from customers and team to be nil or minimum.

• Positive feedback from Head, Internal Audit.

• Positive feedback from Internal Auditors.

Important Relationships

Internal to Bank (who, why, about what)

• Continuous communication with the Lead Auditor or Audit Manager to get advice and guidance.

• Consult with the Lead Auditor or Audit Manager to get ad hoc assignments and to obtain feedback on work done.

• Hold regular Portfolio Management discussions with auditee/stakeholder management to assess inherent risks and to obtain feedback on work carried out.

• Communication with the Lead Auditor or Audit Manager on progress with regard to the annual audit plan.
