The purpose of the role is to lead a team of experts for the strategic design and development of Save the Children’s health and nutrition approaches that support the acceleration of child survival work in the Nigeria country programme. Engage routine and strategic partners within the framework of Save the Children’s global Health and Nutrition strategy and applying the theory of change; and think through the focus and package of approaches and interventions along the continuum of maternal, newborn and child health linked to health systems strengthening activities that facilitate increasing and equitable access to quality primary health care services for vulnerable populations. The programme should be developed in close cooperation and collaboration with the relevant Ministry (ies) of Health departments; and other national and sub-national partner organisations and the private sector.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Internationally recognised medical qualification with post graduate degree in public health, social sciences or equivalentDemonstrated experience in the design, implementation and management of a public health programme in an international development or humanitarian contextTechnical expertise and understanding of key issues in the field of nutrition, maternal new-born and child health, and HIV and AIDSGood understanding of health systems, planning and financing issues at national and sub-national levelsStrong analytical and conceptual skills and the ability to think and plan strategicallyExcellent communication skills, including fluency in written and spoken English and demonstrated experience of proposal and report writingExperience of developing effective working relationships with senior decision-makers in ministries, other governmental organisations, international organisations, donors, academics and opinion-leadersPrevious experience of working in consortium and with for-profit health projects will be beneficialWorking as a Chief of Party or similar position would bring added value to the position.Experience of influencing government policy and practice on key health or social issuesExperience of leading and developing teams of professional staffSuccessful track record in securing programme funding from international donors and other financing sources
