Action Against Hunger | ACF-International works to save lives by combating hunger and diseases that threaten the lives of vulnerable communities, through nutrition, food security, water and sanitation, health and advocacy. 

The Nutrition and Health Officer will play a key role in implementing the Child Development Grant Programme (CDGP) funded by the UK Department for International Development, a joint project being implemented by Save the Children UK (SC) and Action Against Hunger (ACF). The Nutrition and Health Officer’s role will focus on the delivery of nutrition communication interventions.

Summary of Key Objectives:
• To assist in the development and implementation of an appropriate nutrition focused BCC and IYCF methodology
• Collaborate with health centres and other nutrition focused stakeholders in order to successfully carry out CDGP activities.
• Represent ACF externally in relevant local and state level forums and technical working groups

Qualifications & Essential Skills:
• Bachelor degree in health, nutrition, nursing or related field.  Higher level degree preferred.
• Professional, motivated, open, creative, mature, responsible, flexible and culturally sensitive
• Excellent communication, writing and analytical skills
• Proven ability to translate evaluated results into learning strategies.
• Experience in monitoring and evaluating  donor (i.e. USAID, ECHO, DFID, CIDA) funded activities
• Skills on statistical and other software (MS Excel, SPSS, SPHINX, STATA, EPI Info, ENA for SMART, GIS, etc.)
• Fluency in Hausa and English
• Microsoft Office Skills (Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word)
• Experience in humanitarian PQA or M & E.
• Experience in designing and leading internal and external evaluation.
• Experience designing and leading capacity building and training for national teams.
• Familiarity with nutrition, healthcare and systems.
• Commitment to ACF mission, values and policy

Preferred
• Previous experience with food security and livelihoods programming.
• Previous experience managing cash based interventions (i.e. cash for work, cash transfers or cash vouchers)
• Previous experience with ACF

Purpose of the Position:

Accountable for formulation, design, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of Nutrition project(s) to ensure overall efficiency and effectiveness of the project management, delivery and accomplishment of project goals and objectives. Accountable for ensuring that all aspects of the Nutrition project/programme promote gender equality, and for collaborating to mainstream key features across all related sectors of the country programme.

Timely sectoral analysis, input, support and collaboration to the Situation Analysis and its periodic update made for effective project planning, development and management.Knowledge management effectively promoted through drafting/finalizing key Nutrition sectoral programme documents

1.Education:

Training in gender and in nutrition programmes that promote gender equality an asset.

2.Work Experience:
Five to Eight years of relevant professional work experience.
Developing country work experience (for IP) or field work experience (for NO)

Fluency in English and another UN language (for IP)
Fluency in English and local working language of the duty station (for NO).

TA Nutrition Specialist (Surveillance), P-3, at UNICEF Nigeria

Purpose of the Position

The Ebola outbreak has caused alarm and fear among residents in Liberia. The disease has claimed the lives of 587 people since 22 March 2014. As of 19 August, a total of 1024 probable, suspected, and confirmed cases have been reported wherein cases have been confirmed in nine counties namely: Bomi, Bong, Grand Bassa, Grand Cape Mount, Lofa, Margibi, Montserrado, Nimba, and Rivercess.

Key Expected Results

-Provide technical advice and assistance to government officials and other partners in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of a nutrition surveillance system
-Introduce, where necessary, new approaches, methods and practices to ensure MOHSW participation and ownership of the nutrition surveillance system and promotes partnerships with other UN agencies and NGOs methods and tools in project management and evaluation
-Propose and support action on operational procedures affecting surveillance management and implementation
-Build the capacity of county health teams on the surveillance system especially on maintaining the database
-Support data analysis and report writing and consolidate county and national level information and other secondary information as part of regular nutrition updates
-Undertake field visits to monitor programmes
-Review and monitor use of the surveillance system and ensure that it is updated to reflect the changing information needs in Liberia

Qualifications of Successful Candidate

-Advanced university degree in Nutrition, Social Sciences, or related technical field

Job Description

Overall, the Nutrition Coordinator is responsible for the support and capacity building of the UGM partners (including CSOs) and the Government counterpart.

Qualifications

The incumbent should possess a master's degree or equivalent work experience in the field of nutrition, health, or development, experience working with an international NGO is a plus.Candidate must also possess strong computer skills especially in MS office package and strong organizational/communication skills.S(he) should demonstrate ability to assess priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality;S(he) must be able to also work independently and manage various projects in a team setting,with limited supervision;fluency in English and Hausa.

The Strengthening Partnerships, Results, and Innovations in Nutrition Globally (SPRING) project focuses on the prevention of stunting and maternal and child anemia in the first 1,000 days. By providing state-of-the-art technical support, SPRING aims to strengthen country efforts to scale up high-impact nutrition practices and policies to improve maternal and child nutrition outcomes.

SPRING is funded by USAID under a five-year cooperative agreement. SPRING's experienced implementation team consists of experts from JSI Research and Training Institute, Inc., Helen Keller International, The International Food Policy Research Institute, Save the Children, and The Manoff Group.

Job Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Program Manager Nutrition/Fortification, the Program Assistant implements, monitors and evaluate HKI Nigeria’s Rainbow project in accordance with agreed protocols and policies.

Technical Capacity

    Provide technical assistance to and support implementation of the nutrition and awareness creation component of the Rainbow project in Benue and FCT    Implement and monitor programs to support the scaling up of Orange Fleshed Sweetpotato (OFSP) at the state and local government levels    Maintain regular communication with other state nutrition and agriculture program partners and participate in key relevant state and LGA level technical forums    Facilitate program planning and review meetings on Orange fleshed Sweetpotato and Infant and Young Child Nutrition    Collaborate with partners to develop IEC strategies and tools to support OFSP integration in IYCN    Work closely with State Nutrition and Agriculture/ADP Officers to strengthen technical reporting in accordance with defined reporting schedule and program indiSPRINGcators.    Track program progress using mutually agreed indicators, targets, and recommend remedial action to keep programs on course.    Contribute to and support the maintenance of an updated data base of technical and program reports including site visits, monthly reports, quarterly and annual reports    Support the establishment of OFSP farms by IYCF support group members    Carry out additional tasks, as requested by the Program Manager Nutrition/Fortification or any other senior officer(s)

Key Performance Indicators:

    Successful implementation of the Rainbow Project in FCT and Benue States based on:    Effective tracking and reporting of program indicators    Integration of OFSP in IYCF support groups in the states

Action Against Hunger (ACF) is part of the ACF-International Network which works to save lives by combating hunger and diseases that threaten the lives of vulnerable communities, through nutrition, food security, water and sanitation, health and advocacy.

LGA Officer - Nutrition

Purpose:
At the LGA level, implement and monitor ACF’s program objectives of building capacity at PHCs to deliver nutrition related health care services effectively. Oversees and provide support for capacity building activities as integrated with SMOH&LGA for the hospital staff and for the Out-patient Therapeutic Program (OTP) centres for implementing, organising, managing and reporting of Stabilisation centres and OTP activities.

Objective 1: Assess and to build the capacity of the SMoH or LGA Primary Health Care Centres (PHC).Objective 2: Support Community Mobilization Activities in collaboration with Community nutrition officers and health facility staffObjective 3: To support the Nutrition Team in reporting, data analysis and communicationObjective 4: To strengthen the links and Coordination between departments and authorities.Objective 5: To supervise activities in the framework of CMAM implementation guidelines and SPHERE standard.

Qualifications & Essential Skills:

Diploma in Health Sciences with a Major in Nutrition or related field; Bachelor level degree a plusExperience of emergency nutrition work and the design and implementation of feeding programmes (ideally CTC/CMAM), including monitoring and evaluationHigh level of self-discipline, ability to adhere to strict deadlines, organizational skillsProven capacity to supervise, train and coach staffDemonstrable ability to report timely and excellent communication skillsComputer literacyExcellent communication skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive and empathise with all beneficiaries and their carersWillingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditionsPrepared to live and work in an uncertain security environmentFluency in written and spoken English and local languagesTransparency, high ethical values and commitment to protection of children and vulnerable populations.
