Senior Piping Superintendent

Reporting to: Piping Manager

Purpose/Role:

The Senior Piping Superintendent plans, organizes and supervises specific portions of the work such as shop drawing review, plate cutting, fit-ups, welding, rigging, load outs, electrical etc. He applies expertise and specialized talents to the efforts of the assigned craft and in addition perform the following duties:

Prime Responsibilities and Duties:

Responsibilities include - reviewing weekly Safety Reports to ensure no slipping actions and to resolve issues with Supervisors or give feedback to Manager. Understands Emergency Response, Fire Escape & Safe Workplace Arrangement plans and cascading information to assigned workforce. Reviews, has input into and implements JSA and Method statements.Must be able to supervise and coordinate activities of Co-workers engaged in fabrication I Erection. Request supporting trades and services. Understand the project organization chart(s) and to respond to Construction Manager overall objectivesUnderstand the construction methods and work packs, highlight bottle necks and potential risks included in the tasks. Understanding of the schedule and project to determine needs for supplies and sequence of operations required. Verifying work issued is sufficient to meet schedule and to maintain direct labour and supervision workload. Required to resolve day to day issues and to implement workaround plans in liaison with Piping Manager. Verifying that progress made is being reported correctly and to measure progress in collaboration with Supervisors.It is also required to understand and request necessary logistics, equipment's and materials required and to mobilize and demobilize manpower as required. Recognize the distribution, execution, completion and close out of work packages as per target budget and set schedules.Supporting lower supervision levels in resolution of issues. Monitoring performance, making suggestions and implementing corrective actions. To support technical improvements, e.g. in equipment, sequencing and working methods.Coaching labour, to meet required levels of quality. Provide support for his team.Contributing to Tool Box Talk topics,Maintaining necessary records of production, labor, and equipment. Arrange reports as requested by Piping Manager.Provide competency and capabilities assessment of direct reports. Arrange daily feedback to Piping Manager on performance.Promote a safe and organized work environment within his area of responsibility.Establish and promote an environment of mutual respect and teamwork with all employees.Perform other duties as assigned by the Construction Manager

Brief Posting Description
The role is based in country on a rotational basis of 6 weeks on / 2 weeks off. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for design, specification and services related to piping systems and piping layout including piping material selection, piping material line classes, standard and specialty piping components, pressure, weight and thermal analysis of piping systems, vibration analysis and piping support systems.

Principal Responsibilities:

With Local autonomy, establishes and maintains the technical standards within the discipline. Sets strategic and tactical direction with regard to policy/procedures, work force staffing, and budgeting.Participates in decisions regarding the acquisition and execution of engineering and/or Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) contracts, and supporting business acquisitions & preparation of technical proposals.This is a management level position with full responsibility for hiring decisions, staffing levels, budgets, salary administration, and career development of assigned personnel within an engineering discipline.May supervise several subordinate supervisors or team leaders, including discipline lead engineers on EPC projects.

Job Requirements
Technical Business Skills:

A broad range of Piping Engineering skills particularly in the oil and gas processing industry in both the onshore and offshore environment. Well versed with national/international standards.

Be able to create results and a local organization in line with corporate vision, through sharing of engineering knowledge within the region and creation of the engineering people of the future in the African Region

Business Industry Experience:

15-20+ years’ experience in engineering (onshore and offshore projects)Performing a similar role in the past an advantage and involved in developing of engineering offices from inception.

Educational Attainments:
Licensed/Chartered Professional Engineer (advantage) with associated undergraduate Degree in Engineering.

SERVICE DIMENSIONS
• Provide piping CAD capabilities to the ECP engineering team.

ACTIVITIES
• Generate new piping discipline drawings (e.g. piping plans, isometrics, pipe support details, etc.) using AutoCAD or other CAD tool, either based on own information gained on site or provided by discipline engineers.
• Modify existing piping discipline drawings, either based on own information gained on site or provided by discipline engineers.
• Generate and modify other piping discipline documents (e.g. line lists, bill of materials, tie-in schedules, etc.).
• Extract information from existing drawings (e.g. dimensions) at the request of piping discipline engineers.
• Locate and extract drawings from PRODOM document management system at the request of piping discipline engineers.
• Conduct offshore site surveys to obtain information necessary to develop and complete piping design.

CONTEXT & ENVIRONMENT
• Work location: Based in Lagos with regular site visits offshore. Major client is FO departments.
• Constraints: Mistakes and delays in design could lead to costly delays in procurement, construction and ultimately production, which would have serious negative impact on TUCN Assets.
• Favourable Factors: TUCN assets represent technically challenging projects. Numerous contacts with process and other discipline experts elsewhere in the Deep Water District and in France. Relative freedom to utilise own work methods and practices.

ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Compliance with ECP HSE KPI & Objective and assist ECP in compliance with overall TUCN HSE requirement
• Effective and timely delivery of piping drawings and documentation of an acceptable quality.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• Minimum Qualification: Technical diploma in engineering with 5 to 10 years experience in an oil and gas environment.
• Skilled use of AutoCAD and other CAD tools essential.
• Use of MS-Office an added advantage.

Job Title: Upper Level Lead Piping Engineer

Job Description An extensive current design experience is required in piping engineering, piping stress, pipe supports, topsides & FPSO plant equipment layouts and detailed piping design, all gained with notable design contractors and/or oil/gas companies within the petrochemical industry particularly with respect to offshore & FPSO oil and gas installations. Co-ordinates all Piping Engineering activities and deliverables (specifications, datasheets, schedule, weight control Report, tie-in list, SP Item list, Stress Analysis etc.) and ensures they are produced to the correct level of quality and in accordance with the project plans and procedures. Review, Validate and approve the FEED documents on FPSO. This information shall be the basis for the detailed design. Estimates project man-hour budgets, reviews budgets with project management and maintains schedule throughout the life cycle of the project. Effectively manages changes in discipline work scope. Must have the capacity to work under pressure and managed the work within tight schedules. Undertakes all matters related to planning, progressing and reporting. Compiles / develops plans for the production and issuing of the piping deliverables Supervises the creation of project piping material specifications, piping design standards, technical design instructions, Piping engineering modelling, design and drafting activities, codes and standards, and discipline work practices / procedures. Ensures interaction with other disciplines for all interfaces and effectively co-ordinates piping engineering activities with the project and client. Attends and contributes to design / construction reviews. Liaise with client discipline representatives to establish technical direction where not provided by codes & standards. Apply an awareness and willingness to work as a team member. Must comply with HSE and quality requirements including periodic Audits at the project and corporate level and ensure compliance of same by subordinates. Ability to coach and develop staff for both discipline skills and engineering management. Must be willing to work in Sub Sahara Region of Africa.


Requirement Substantial proven experience of detailed piping engineering gained with design contractors.Industry Specific Experience:
Over 15 years' minimum experience in Offshore / FPSO Oil and Gas Design industry.Education - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:
Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent. Professional / Chartered Engineer (or equivalent).
